I have to admit, I am a very nervous England supporter this evening.

Since Capello has taken over the team, I’ve found myself no longer disenfranchised with the national side…until the World Cup began.

I don’t fully agree with his team selection, and I don’t believe that his handling of the squad in preparation for the tournament and indeed for individual matches warrants much praise.

However, he can redeem himself in my eyes and the eyes of many more England fans if he makes bold team selection and tactical decisions ahead of the first whistle in our game against Slovenia tomorrow.

In my opinion, he has no choice but to either play an attacking 4-3-3 with Rooney in the middle flanked by the likes of Joe Cole and Aaron Lennon, or go for a more pressing 4-5-1 packing the midfield and pushing Gerrard foward into the slot to support him.

If we go out onto that pitch with Rooney and Heskey up front in the same 4-4-2 we’ve deployed against the USA and Algeria, I will quite possibly cry tears of fustration.

The budget was announced today. The iPhone 4 officially releases on Thursday; but the biggest story of this week, month and perhaps even the year is going to be whether Capello and his band of merry bored men progress to the knock-out stages as last-minute heroes, or complete and utter total frakk-ups.

Work closes at 1.30pm tomorrow so we can all go and watch the match. I’m lucky that I’ve got work coming out of every orifice as I’ll need every distraction possible to keep my mind off the fact that we could be out by 5:00pm tomorrow afternoon.

I’m tempted to have a flutter at the bookies, but I’m ashamed to say I might be having a bet on Slovenia if the odds are good enough.

NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope has spotted this dark entity or ‘crack’ 11,000 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius…

A crack in space?

And images taken from the TARDIS scanner screen show a very similar looking crack…

Why is the TARDIS in trouble?

The plot thickens.

Either way, this Saturday at 6.05pm we’ll begin to find out exactly how it all happens.

I’ve decided that I’m definitely going to pursue an iPad before the end of the year, but that actually brings about a bit of a conundrum.

At the moment, I’ve got all my media converted into an iPhone format so I can watch older Dr Who or Battlestar Galactica episodes on the move. I’m soon going to be ripping and converting all my Red Dwarf DVD’s to the same format. What I’m also quite likely to do is produce high quality rips of episodes from all those shows in a size and resolution good enough to watch on my 27.5 iMac. Yes yes I know I could just put the DVD in the machine but I like the idea of quickly opening up an episode without any faffing around.

However, when I do get the iPad does this mean that I’m going to create a third copy of all of these episodes converted to a more suitable size and resolution, just for the iPad? One approach I was thinking of taking is simply creating a generic ‘mobile’ edition of the episodes at a half way point between what I’d put on each of the two devices. Perhaps that is the simplest solution?

Like many millions of England supporters, I too held my head in my hands and shouted at the screen when Robert Green made the mistake that cost us the perfect, yet not deserved start to our World Cup campaign. Many pundits, as well as the man himself have said that it was an unacceptable error at this level of football. Quite right.

However, every goalkeeper makes these kind of mistakes throughout their career; unfortunately for poor Robert Green this one came with the focus of the entire nation was on him bumbling that tame shot into the net. I believe he, with or without help from the coaching staff can get through the crisis. He isn’t a young 21 year old keeper and he has enough experience at club level to be able to handle pressure in big games.

Regardless of whether he can bounce back or not, we CANNOT afford to drop him from the team at this point. I say this for two reasons.

Firstly, dropping him now when he is playing in his first World Cup would do far too much psychological damage to the man and possibly fatal damage to his international goalkeeping career under Capello after this tournament is over. Yes, he claims that he is strong and can deal with it but deep down not being picked again will destroy him at his absolute core.

We need to keep our faith in him, especially as he proved in the second half that he is a very capable keeper. Players are not always perfect and do not always live up to our high expectations – the England v USA game last week was a prime example of that- and Capello must show some restraint in his decision making.

Second, David James. Granted, James is an option that brings a wealth of experience and some considerable talent between the sticks. However the biggest irony for me is that James has made a career out of being in the sports headlines more for his errors than for his amazing moments in goal and he is the man we’re asking to step in to fill Green’s shoes.

The worst I can foresee happening is that we play Green again and he has a bad game. I believe we have enough about us as a team to scrape through the group stages whether or not the goalkeeper position continues to be troublesome or not.

If England would have managed to get a second goal last week (*cough* Heskey *cough*), I feel that we might of seen an England début for Joe Hart in the final game against Slovenia. Now I fully expect James to play in both games.

Come on Capello, stick with Green. He doesn’t share my surname…honest.

Now, my concerns.

I freely admit that I absolutely hate James Corden and his partner in lesbian vampire fighting, Matthew Horne. Granted, Corden deserves kudos for his writing contribution to Gavin & Stacy, but I just don’t like the guy at all. Neither does Patrick Stewart, so it seems.

So far, this series of Doctor Who has been absolutely superb and I’m waiting with baited breath for the two-part finale. However, I really DO NOT WANT this episode, traditionally a ‘Doctor Lite’ affair during the Russell T. Davies era and now ‘Amy Lite’ (boo!) to lower the standards right before the big climax.

There is hope, however. A review posted over at Blogtor Who seems to suggest that the episode is really rather good, with plenty of laughs and creepy ending; I certainly hope that my pessimism is proved to be completely unjustified and perhaps, just perhaps Corden can begin to redeem himself in my eyes.

I moved away from PC’s a few years ago when I decided to jump ship to the Macbook Pro 15′, and I am now completely Windows-less.

I still have the trusty MBP bagged up, however I’m keen to refurbish and sell it with a view to possibly getting an iPad, or contributing towards the expense of buying a new camera.

The specification I went for is Dual Core Intel i5 3.06GHz, 4GB memory, 1TB hard disk and an ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics card with 256MB on board memory. The processor and memory specifications are quite similar to the MBP, although the iMac is definitely faster which is probably down to the i5 processor.

The screen, which is a true 16:9 widescreen display at 2560 x 1440 resolution is quite simply, stunning. I’m only just getting used (again) to having all of the extra workspace, and being able to have multiple windows up at once with plenty of room to spare. The size of the iMac makes everything else in the office spare room look pathetic; although at least the colour scheme matches my printer.

Applications such as Aperture, Final Cut Studio, Photoshop and After Effects really benefit from all the extra space, and running games like Football Manager and even golden oldies such as Deus Ex at full resolution is quite something.

The Apple Magic Mouse with its button-less design works really well, and I’m surprised at how quickly using it has become second nature as I was really expecting it to be a nuisance. I went for the full, wired numpad keyboard instead of the standard wireless one, and that was a wise call as I do a lot of work in Excel and other applications where I’m regularly entering figures.

I have to say that the migration (which I did over Ethernet) from the MBP to the iMac was utterly painless. The only thing I had to install once the migration was completed was, ironically, something need to support MS Office Mac Edition! The only issue I have now is that I need to get a 1TB firewire or USB drive to use as my Time Machine backup!
