Business in Sport

Today is day two of my ‘Very Long and Tiring Week ™’, but I’m delighted to welcome my partner in crime HRH Paul Stevens to Manchester this evening to join me in the audience for the BBC ‘Business in Sport’ event that is being broadcast on BBC News (24?) and BBC Radio 5 Live from 8pm. The recent business dealings of Manchester United, Portsmouth and Liverpool will feature heavily no doubt.

Mark Pougatch, presenter of 5 Live’s flagship football programming is hosting the event at the Manchester Convention Centre at GMEX. The BBC Sport & Business editors are due to appear amongst other guests. Given that the event also coincides with day one of the annual Soccerex Europe conference which is also held at the same venue, I’m hoping that some big names are pulled into the debate.

I doubt however that David Gill, Chief Executive of Man United will appear. He’ll want to confine himself to the more comfortable and pressure free surroundings of the Soccerex conference on Wednesday, where he is a guest speaker and I believe he will be attempting to staunchly defend the Glazer take-over and subsequent bond issue etcetera.

Unfortunately, £795.00 to heckle is a little pricey.

I’ll be tweeting the event (with pictures) on my Twitter account, and it promises to be an interesting evening.
