Funky, eh?

Over the last few days, I’ve decided that I’m going to move away from YouTube for the actual hosting of any videos I produce. The reason? Vimeo. In all fairness, I’ve been using both video hosting services for some time now; YouTube a little longer than Vimeo. The thing is, YouTube just doesn’t inspire me when I’m on the site. It’s bland, overrated and just not “cool” enough for me at the moment.

Vimeo on the other hand is the Apple of video hosting. They’re cool dudes & dudettes running a good looking service with some great ideas and a site design that is far better than YouTube. Plus, I’ve found my uploads to be of a far better quality, and I generally like the whole channels/groups thing they have going on in addition to the option of a paid account that is a very attractive thirty-five quid purchase at the moment. Right now I have all of my college videos (some embarrassing stuff there!) hosted on Vimeo as well as the legendary ‘Joe’ that some folks have seen; hoping for more content to come over the autumn/winter.

YouTube is just too big an entity now. It has become an uncontrollable beast and I just don’t find myself attracted to it at all. I find that Vimeo is a better home for budding fimmakers, although that is entirely subjective. It is certainly more aesthetically pleasing, and while they haven’t quite got all the jiggery pokery that YouTube hosted videos have, I actually find Vimeo a cleaner experience that lets you focus on the video itself and not the tools you can use surrounding it.

Therefore, as of tonight, I’ll be pulling everything off my YouTube account and hosting only with Vimeo. You can find me at: http://www.vimeo.com/dtgreen.
