1984 Apple Macintosh advert

Just bumped into this on YouTube and haven’t seen it in a while. Absolutely brilliant, so very eighties. I have to admit I’d prefer more adverts like this from the marketing folks at Apple, rather than the current output they have. An Apple fanboi having a pop at Apple? Sure. :)

Watch it after the jump.

Not what I had in mind

Well, today certainly wasn’t the day I had planned.

All the nerves of last night were washed away when it dawned on me that I wasn’t actually due to be in University for my first class at all. Duh, no seminars this week David. So having gotten up at 8am, I found myself with a whole day to fill.

The (kind of) calm before the storm

After a week without internet, I’m back online as I arrive home from a wonderful weekend in Manchester that followed my first five evenings living in this very student house I’m sat in right now.

So far, other than having a week delay on my student loan and having to wait an entire week to get online in this room, my introduction to student life (albeit with a fairly quiet Freshers Week) has been pretty superb and I’ve really settled in quite quickly; it’s just that tomorrow, the real work begins.

Stunning photo journalism

I wanted to link to an article I found on Digg that I’ve just been reading by the photo journalist Michael Yon, who has spent time embedded with British forces in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

He tells a sobering tale of what life is like for our lads and lasses serving on the front line, and the quality of the photos he has taken is just superb. Please take a few minutes to read the article and see his stunning photography by clicking on the image below.

You can view other dispatches from the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan on his website.

Need your help, folks

I’m currently trying to get the beginning of the first draft of a documentary script written, and I could use your help and knowledge. I’m looking for examples to refer to in the opening few paragraphs of dialogue, and could use your help in the comments below.

As part of the documentary I’m making, I use the concept of ‘suspension of disbelief’ to help lead into the actual topic I’m covering. This concept of course refers to things that books, films and television programmes throw at us that we simply have to just accept, regardless of how implausible, ludicrous or overly convenient they may be.

One example, if not a poor one, is in ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ where the U.S Navy just so happen to have a weapon able to take down Devastator with a single shot, or perhaps the other example of just how an entire battle group of armoured vehicles and reserve troops magically appear as reinforcements in the final battle only minutes after getting the order to ‘go’. Don’t even get me started on the convenient resurrection of Sam toward the end…

Any help welcome! If you can quote several from one source, please feel free.

Good night, and good luck.

P.S I may be a Transformers fan boi, but I can still criticise the plot.
