There are sixteen, count them, six-frakkin-teen days remaining until our favourite robots in disguise grace our cinema screens yet again as ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen lands in the U.K, which is a perfect (but unnecessary) excuse for another robot themed ‘Web Wednesday’. With the global premiere happening this weekend, the marketing hype surround this film is quite, quite mad.
I’ve been collecting as much information as possible this week in an effort to catch up on all things ‘Revenge of the Fallen’, so be warned this is a BIG post. Mild spoiler alert is worth throwing out as well.
Okay, to get started here are two more of the ‘TV spot’ advertisements that have been airing on U.S television networks to support the release:
A lot of re-used footage there, but a couple of new clips and longer versions of existing clips we’ve seen.
Onto a couple of interesting images now. First up is an image that seems to show Optimus Prime with his ‘Generation One’ edition blaster gun in his hand, and second of all a high resolution screen capture from one of the other trailers, giving us a good look at what we believe to be ‘The Fallen’, one of the original elder Cybertronian transformers. Interesting stuff! Thanks to the Transformers Live Action Movie Blog for those images!
Now for a general news round-up. Nikki Finnke’s Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting that rival Hollywood studios are predicting a big opening for Paramount’s ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”:
Paramount is gonna call me screaming any moment. But rival studios are telling me they expect Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen to open with a high of $175M for its 5-day opening from Wednesday, June 24 to Sunday, June 28. Because the sequel came onto tracking HUGE today. Paramount will try to lower expectations. But here’s what can’t be argued: Spider-Man 2 opened on Wednesday, June 30, 2004, and did $152 million for its first 5 days. So Transformers 2 feels like at least it should be in the $160+M range.
In other news, tformers.com are reporting that Wizard Magazine, a U.S publication, carries an interview with Shia LaBeouf that reveals a very interesting detail. Shia injured his hand during the time he was filming ‘Revenge of the Fallen’, and the writers had to work it into the script somehow:
…Mr. LaBeouf reveals that Sam Witwicky hurts his hand en-route to a destination on the Space Bridge.
Space bridge? WTF? For the non-hardcore Transformers fans amongst you, the space bridge was a means of getting Decepticons from Cybertron to Earth in the original ‘Generation One’ cartoon series. If they have incorporated this technology into the film, even if we only see it once, then that is cool!
The only other news of interest is that it sounds like a tight race to the finish line to have the film ready in time, according to the Michael Bay interview conducted by MTV and posted on their MTV Movies Blog after they caught up with him at Sundays MTV Movie Awards:
I’m a little stressed because I’m finishing the movie tomorrow,” said Bay when asked how things were coming along, only to add, “Maybe Wednesday.”
Wow, that is a close finish. The global premiere is only a matter of days away and international screenings begin in just over two weeks; he is obviously committed to releasing a kick ass final product and I just hope it delivers, which I am confident it will!
Finally, I picked up on a commercial advertisement featuring Optimus Prime on YouTube, for the ‘LG Versa’ mobile phone, which I have to admit is rather good:
And that is a wrap for another edition of Web Wednesday. Looking forward to the film immensely now, and I’ll quite likely put together another pre-release round-up next Wednesday.
Autobots, transform, and rooooll out!
P.S Like the original transformers theme tune? Right click on this link and ‘Save As’ to your computer to enjoy the orchestral version! Enjoy!
