Last night, a friend posted a link on Twitter that will make a lot of web gurus lives much easier. Pixlr is, simply put, a web based image/photo editing application that offers similar functionality to offline applications such as Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro and Gimp. Here is a look at the interface:

Pixlr doesn’t have a lot of advanced features, however there are several filters available and you have a decent level of control over colour, brightness & contrast, hue & saturation and more. It also supports layers which is a bonus, and sports all the usual tools you would find in Photoshop for example. A cool feature that Pixlr has is that you can fetch an image from an web address which you can then edit before saving.
For bloggers and web monkeys, Pixlr is fantastic. No longer do we have to open up Photoshop to simply crop an image! I’m not going to write any more about Pixlr as you should really play with it yourself.

Pixlr is good. Do you know if there are any desktop publishing type web apps?
None that I know of, except Google Documents but that isn’t strictly desktop publishing. Good excuse to hunt for one, though.
