Web Wednesday – Transformers Special

I am dedicating this weeks edition of ‘Web Wednesday’ to the upcoming ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ film that is currently slated for a June 19th UK release, not because I am a fan boy but because I am a fan boi…at least spell it right! The majority of the content here has come from the blog of Michael Bay himself and I’ll post the link at the end of this article  and I recommend adding his site ‘Shoot For The Edit’ to your feed reader.

First up, there are THREE new short ”TV spots’ available for the film that are a combination of new and old footage, and I have to say some of the new clips are mouth watering indeed. WARNING: This post may force you to change underpants/knickers, and may contain mild spoilers. One of the new Transformers appearing in ‘Revenge of the Fallen’ is Sideways, the Audi R8 who crashes through the apartment in the trailers, chased by the female Autobot motorcycles. Sideways wasn’t present in the original cartoon series, however he did appear later on in  the ‘Armada’ and ‘Cybertron’ series, as well as other productions. This was released on Michael Bay’s blog today, click on the thumbnail for an enlarged version.

Sideways was portrayed as a very deceiving Transformer who simply wanted to cause mischief for both the Autobots and the Deceptions (serving both sides) for his own pleasure or to please his master Unicron, the planet sized Transformer we saw in the 1986 animated feature ‘Transformers: The Movie’.

Exactly what his agenda is in ‘Revenge of the Fallen’ is unknown, however we can safely assume from the footage we have seen is that he will side with the Decepticons, at least for part of the film. If Sideways makes it out of the film alive, it certainly opens up interesting possibilities for the much rumoured Unicron plot I’ve heard talked about for the already confirmed ‘Transformers 3′. If June 19th is indeed an accurate release date, then we have thirty days to hang on. The first film ‘Transformers’ was brilliant, but too focused on the human characters for my liking. I suspect that this will be different this time around.

Oh, I nearly forgot to say, beware Isabel Lucas…
