Web Wednesday – Om nom nom

In another regular feature I’m going to be serving up each week, I bring you ‘Web Wednesday’, a feature where I pick one or more things that I’ve been exposed to on ‘Teh Intarnets’ and share it with you. You can expect it to be web video, flash games, funny images and anything that I think is worth posting.

So, for the first installment I’d like to share with you the wonder that is: Zombie Horde 3!

This rather cool flash game has kept me amused for the past couple of days, and is a welcome rest bite from working on Park of the Dead and other projects. Tasked with roaming the streets to find your friends, you’ll find yourself coming across zombies which you can blow away using your pistol, or by punching with your free arm.

The control system is rather cool, as you control your aim and the firing of the right arm weapon (pistol by default) with the mouse, and control your characters movement (W,S,A,D) with the keyboard as well as reloading and using your left hand.

You have the usual health bar, ammo counter, mini-map and navigation compass on screen to keep you updated, and you are tasked with moving through the level towards the police station and beyond. A garage is available for you to purchase health, armour and weapon upgrades -you can equip a second weapon in your spare left hand- as well as buying more ammo.

One of the things I like about the game is that you often get caught in areas that you have to ‘defend’. For example you could arrive in an alleyway and the map is frozen to limit your movement, followed by a horde of zombies and other creatures swarming in to attack you and night time even descends on you in some cases, which is a nice touch as you are left only with your flashlight to warn you of incoming bad guys.

All in all Zombie Horde 3 is a fun game, with good production values, innovative game play, RPG-esque ‘shop’ system and a good soundtrack to support it. You’ll loose many an hour on this! The levels themselves could be a little prettier, but that didn’t bother me to be honest.
