New extended Torchwood S3 trailer

Warning, here begins a backlog of blog posts I’ve half written over the weekend!

Although the start date is yet to be announced (likely mid-to-late June), the BBC have released another, longer trailer for the upcoming series three that is unique in the respect that it will be broadcast over five consecutive evenings telling a single story:

I have to say I am looking forward to this immensely, especially with the current sci-fi drought that exists on television at the moment. Thanks to the Torchwood.tv for the heads up.

Trailer Tuesday – Sherlock Holmes

I was going to look for a lesser known film for Trailer Tuesday this week, but having spotted it, I had to post this as I’m a huge fan of both the universe and of Downey Jnr.  Scheduled for release Xmas 2009:

Is this too over the top for a Holmes film or is it the breath of fresh air the franchise needed? Comments please.

Trailer for ABC’s ‘V’ series pilot

Stumbled across this while browsing my news feeds this afternoon. I never really saw much of the original 1980′s series, in fact I can’t remember much at all other than the basic premise of the show. A quick check on Wikipedia provides me with a nice short synopsis of the remake that is due to air its pilot episode on July 4th in the U.S:

“The world awakens to find spaceships hovering over all major cities. Though the aliens claim to come in peace, some do not believe them. Homeland Security agent Erica Evans discovers that the aliens have plans to infiltrate our governments and businesses in a plot to take over the planet.”

Not quite the ‘Independance Day’ style invasion, much more cunning. It looks like it has promise. Here is the main trailer that is doing the rounds at the moment.  Let me know your opinion in the comments.

Virgin Media Shorts decision

I previously blogged about the competition back in April, and it was something I really wanted to enter, but more for the exposure on their website than to win the actual prize.

This morning, we received our brief for the final assignment of the course entitled ‘Digital Storytelling’, and we have been encouraged to follow the Virgin Media Shorts technical guidelines and actually enter our work into the competition. Therefore, I am entering the competition.

I’ve been working on my ‘Park of the Dead’ project for a solid two months, and was originally planning to use this for my final project, but now that the goalposts have changed somewhat at college I’ve decided to delay ‘Park of the Dead’ until I finish the course, and have a go at a decent competition entry.

Now, all I have to do is come up with a decent idea, and keep it equal to or under two minutes and twenty seconds. Time for a bit of brainstorming!
