Escape The Room

Yesterday, John over at Rock, Paper, Shotgun posted about a web game that he had been playing, called Sagrario’s Room, an ‘Escape The Room’ style puzzle that I spent the best part of three hours playing yesterday evening, and I have to admit it is one of the best short gaming experiences I’ve had for a while.

Sagrario's Room

Sagrario's Room

You are in a room, with a locked door that has a plastic chair bolted to the ground in front of it, several panels on the wall in addition to a picture of Da Vinci’s vitruvian man, an electric wall socket and a briefcase on the floor. The room can be explored and interacted with using your left mouse button, so you’ll find that by clicking the left of the screen, you turn left, if you see something to pickup you click it, on and so on.

Objects you collect will appear in a toolbar at the bottom of your screen, and clicking the info icon on each item will bring it up in a screen of it’s own, where left clicking can manipulate it further depending on the object. Tip: sometimes you will have to use one item on another.

Some of the puzzles and problems you have to solve are straight forward if you think logically, some of them are much more obscure. I’ve read that some people think aspects of the game are too obscure, but it is a brilliant challenge!

Enjoy, link to the game is below. The game saves your progress as well, which is rather cool!

The Dark Knight Parody

I’m researching film directors for an essay I have to write as part of one of our final modules of the year on the course, and came across this excellent parody of The Dark Knight script, as if it were a Michael Bay film. I can’t say I’m at all critical of Michael Bay given the work he has done, and especially being a huge Transformers fanboi. Regardless, you have to laugh and it is difficult not to identify with what the parody is poking fun at.

Heath Ledger

Heath Ledger as The Joker

Heath Ledger

I wanted to say a few words about Heath Ledger. His death was an absolute shock when it was announced last year, and although I can’t claim to have seen everything he has ever appeared in, from what I did see he clearly had the talent to go on and get into the big league of  ’A list’ actors and take on bigger projects.

When he was announced as The Joker in the  Dark Knight, I was pleasantly surprised at his selection to play the role, but did hold a few doubts as to whether he could put in a performance that would be anywhere close to that of the great Jack Nicholson in the original, and in my opinion best Batman outing to date at that time.

In the end, those doubts I held were absolutely unjustified. There are only a handful of films I’ve seen in the last couple of years that have left me completely silent and shovelling popcorn in my mouth as if it’s going out of fashion. Those films are No Country For Old Men (outstanding piece of cinema), Transformers (I grew up with those cartoons/toys) and The Dark Knight.

I’ve been critical of Christian Bale lately, and to be honest I don’t particularly like him as Batman (his forthcoming appearance as John Connor in Terminator Salvation is concerning me), but in a fabulous ensemble cast including the likes of Aaron Eckhart and a personal favourite of mine, Gary Oldman, Ledger shone and the performance he put in was absolutely absorbing, and he portrayed this agent of chaos with such brilliance that I almost stood and applauded at the end of the cinema screening.

I have watched The Dark Knight three times so far, once at the cinema and twice on DVD. The problem I’m having is that I keep wanting to watch the film, if anything just for Ledger’s performance -sometimes it feels like the character is quietly whispering to me from within the box- and in my book that tells me that his iconic performance in the latest installment of the Batman movie franchise is one that simply will not be beaten for a very, very long time.

Therefore, I stand and applaud now for the 2009 Oscar Winner for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Heath is a tragic loss, but he will not be forgotten any time soon.

Good night, and good luck.

Revenge of The Fallen Trailer

Following on from the previous teaser trailer that was released to coincide with the US Superbowl event,  Michael Bay’s second Robot-on-Robot blockbuster is on show again, this time in the form of the first official main trailer for the film to be released in the summer.

I’ve watched this at least two-dozen times, and I get just as excited every time. Not only that, but I’ve noticed several things since my first viewing that I didn’t initially pickup on. Enjoy, and if you want to watch it in full HD, follow the link below.
